Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital (HIAE) in Brazil is one of the three institutions of Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein (SBIBAE), a non-profit charitable institution. This private hospital was inaugurated in 1971 and has ISO certifications in several areas.
The services offered at HIAE include alcohol and drug program, blood bank, cardiology, coloproctology, dermatology, diagnostic, medicine, dialysis center, endocrinology and metabiology, gastroenterology, geriatrics and gerontology, gynecology and obstetrics, haematology, haemotherapy, hepatology, infectology, intensive care center – adults, mastology, maternity, nefrology, neurology, nutrition, ophthalmology, oncology, orthopedics and traumatology, othorhinolaryngology, pediatrics and intensive care center, plastic surgery, pneumology, psychology, rehabilitation, rheumatology, semen bank, tabagism, umbilical cord blood bank and urology.
HIAE has three diagnosis units. The Morumbi unit can accommodate more than 450 patients and is a major general hospital with advanced hospital structure. The Jardins unit is known for its continued health and cardiovascular risk prevention revision programs. It is responsible for quick and detailed diagnosis by conducting ergonometric tests, echocardiography, coronary tomography and cholesterol dosage testing. The exams conducted at this unit are audiometry, lab exams, gynecological exams, bone densimetry, peniscopy, cardiological exams, computerized tomography and ultrasonography. The Alphaville unit conducts lab tests, tomography, and other diagnostic exams. The exams include X-rays, tomography, endoscopy and lab exams.
Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital (HIAE) has close to 5000 registered physicians responsible for appointments, exams, hospitalizations, surgeries, etc. 500 of these are employed by the hospital. These physicians are specialists and most are graduates from Brazil or other countries. HIAE claims that its staff follows all quality norms, protocols, routines etc., the details of the staff are not mentioned for public though.
International Patient Support Services (IPSS) is a department in HIAE that is responsible for international customers. Communication can be established with the staff in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This department helps in appointment and exam scheduling, referrals to specialists, medical guidance, lodging in hotels. The department also helps in establishing an interface with the insurance company of the patient for the necessary details of expenses. It provides information about service prices to HIAF customers and verifies the coverage for any purpose. Admission, hospitalization and discharge processes of patients and relation with embassies and consulates are some of the responsibilities of this department. IPSS has relationships with international insurance companies to assist its patients in insurance related services. The Albert Einstein Diagnostics unit's equipment is used to carry out image and laboratory tests. The results can be sent to the patients or their physicians through fax or Internet also. Another important unit of HIAE is for neurological problems. HIAE provides its clients with a Care Center for stroke patients, which is operational around the clock. Medical and multidisciplinary teams at the Neurological Emergency Department at Morumbi Unit provide diagnostic and preventive medicine and rehabilitation of stroke patients through physical therapy, speech therapy, neuropsychology and occupational therapy. Neurological Intensive Care Unit and Neurological Inpatients Unit are two of its major units. The department has specialists in clinical neurology, neurosurgery and neuropediatrics, and technological resources like neurophysiology, radiation therapy and neuronavigator. Besides, there is treatment available for neurodegenerative diseases and brain tumors. The Cardiological Treatment Unit is also operational around the clock. There is in it a separate thoracic pain unit, semi-intensive coronary unit, intensive coronary unit and cardiological hospitalization unit. The staff comprises of cardiologists, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists, and psychologists. The Unit has a cardiological monitoring center which receives vital signs of each patient online.
The Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital claims to be Latin America’s largest liver transplant center with more than 120 liver transplants done every year. HIAE is a technology pioneer with magnetic resonance equipments, equipment for PET (Positron Emission Tomography) to the CT (Conventional Tomography). The Albert Einstein Transplantation Center was inaugurated in 2002 for providing ambulatory follow-up to its SUS patients in the pre- and pos-transplant period. In December 2006, the hospital reportedly became the first in South America to facilitate image guided radiation therapy to patients.
